Athletic Overview

Saint Gertrude High School Athletic Department serves as an extension on the values and philosophies of the school as a whole. Athletics at Saint Gertrude serves as a way to promote healthy lifestyles and fitness for life. While some Gator student athletes go on to continue their athletic participation on the collegiate level, Saint Gertrude's emphasis is on teamwork, commitment, strong effort and good sportsmanship.

Saint Gertrude fields 17 teams in 12 sports. Teams offered by season include: Fall: Tennis, Volleyball (JV and Varsity), Filed Hockey (JV and Varsity), Cross Country; Winter: Basketball (JV White, JV Green, Varsity), Indoor Track, Swimming; Spring: Softball, Soccer (JV and Varsity), Lacrosse, Outdoor Track, Golf.

The number of student athletes allowed on a particular team will vary by sport, but every attempt is made to accommodate those girls who wish to participate. Cuts are made when the athlete is not prepared for the level of competition and/or the number of girls trying out for the team exceeds the coach's ability to provide and rewarding experience for all involved.

Saint Gertrude's primary athletic affiliations include the League of Independent Schools (LIS), the Virginia Catholic League and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA). Along with playing teams in these leagues, Saint Gertrude's athletic schedule includes competition with area public schools. Mike Woodson Saint Gertrude High School Director of Athletics
