Guidance Services

Our goal is to help each student develop into a successful, well-adjusted, and caring young woman who is capable of making wise life-decisions. We support and encourage students in achieving maturity and growth, personally and academically.
 
Personal
  • Meet individually with students beginning freshman year
  • Meet with referred students and those who seek help
  • Offer support and encouragement
  • Direct students and their families to appropriate professionals
  • Liason between faculty, students and parents
 
Academic
  • Create and send report cards, transcripts
  • Review interims and report cards
  • Contact parents when concerned
  • Offer parent-teacher conferences when helpful
  • Keep academic folders and records for each student
  • Coordinate PSAT and SAT review sessions
  • Administer the PSAT for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors
  • Coordinate scheduling
  • Coordinate and administer AP exams
  • Keep tutor list
 
College
  • Meet with juniors in groups
  • Help students complete resume or activity review
  • Self-Assessment Questionnaire (gifts, talents, strengths, interests, goals)
  • Host junior college panel in spring of junior year
  • Host financial aid workshop (guest speakers/experts)
  • Host Richmond Area Independent Schools College Night
  • Create and distribute our SGHS College Handbook
  • Meet with parent & student (individual conference) to help identify
    colleges that best suit the student (reach, mid-range, and likely)
  • Develop a plan of action for college application process – help student through the process
