The Saint Gertrude Varsity Tennis team opened up its season with a bang on Thursday, August 31 winning the match with Covenant School 8-1. The Gators won all six single matches and 2 of the 3 doubles matches. It marked the first win of the season and the first win in the LIS Conference for the team. The JV and Varsity teams will next face Collegiate School on Tuesday, September 5.
After falling behind 0-1 early in the game on Thursday, August 31, the Gators Varsity Field Hockey team fought back hard and took the lead, 2-1 before the visitors from Steward tied the game at 2-2. Both teams would score one more time to finish the second half tied, 3-3. Saint Gertrude had some great chances in overtime, but Steward was able to get in the go ahead goal. The team will next host Bishop Sullivan on Thursday, September 7.

JV Players Get in a Quick Practice before supporting the Varsity team
The Varsity Volleyball team defeated Saint John Paul the Great in its first home match of the season in three sets on Wednesday, August 30. The win comes after a tough road loss to Steward School on August 29, so it was a great way to rebound for the squad.
The JV team dominated the first set against John Paul, but lost momentum in the second set and dropped the third, tiebreaker set with SJP. The JV team defeated Steward School the day before in two sets.
Both teams are set to travel to LIS Foe, Trinity Episcopal on Wednesday, September 6 at 4:30 and 6PM.
