SGHS Weekly Athletic Update


Congratulation to Nan Kerner ’21 on being named the November Gator Athlete of the Month! Through the two scrimmages and one game in November, Nan plays the critical role of point guard and has really stepped up. In the team’s first game of the year, Nan scored 10 points and had 8 steals and 5 assists in 2.5 quarters of play. Way to go, Nan!


The JV and varsity basketball program will host its 2nd Annual Christmas Classic on Thursday, December 28 and Friday December 29. The JV team will play Maggie Walker on Thursday, December 28 at 12PM before two varsity games: 2PM Steward vs CVHAA and 4PM Saint Gertrude vs Bishop Sullivan. The following day’s schedule will be determined by the outcomes on December 28. There is an admission to the games, $5 for adults and $2 for students and seniors, each day.


The Swim team began its season last Friday, December 1 at Collegiate pool. There were a number of strong performances on the day. Top 5 finishes include: 4th place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (Clark, Czaja, Butt, Lewis), 4th place in the 200 yard free (Lewis), 5th place in the 200 yard IM (Czaja), 4th place in the 400 yard free relay (Clark, Czaja, Shelton, Lewis) and 2nd place finishes in the 500 yard free (Lewis) and 100 yard backstroke (Clark). A full list of results can be found on the website under athletic downloads. The team will next travel to Woodberry Forest today for a meet. After the Christmas break, the team will swim at St. Catherine’s on Saturday, January 6.


Indoor Track & Field will begin its season after the New Year. A new coach has been named and will announced over Christmas break.
