On Saturday, May 19, Senior Shot Putter, Lexi Lamb finished a great track season with a 5th place finish at the VISAA Track and Field Meet at Sports Backer Stadium!

Friday, June 1st Bon Secours Doctors will be at Saint Gertrude for Sports Physicals from 3-5PM.  Cost is $25 and payment can be in cash or check form (made out to Bon Secours).

 

This Summer, join Alyssa Rossi, the Athletic Trainer at SGHS, for a Bootcamp/HIIT workout series! This program is geared towards athletes at Saint Gertrude or those who plan on participating in any sports this coming school year. The workouts will focus on three main elements of all sports, power, strength and endurance. This will not only help improve all around athleticism, but reduce the risk of injury during sports.

This program will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays each week, starting June 25th (excluding July 2 – 6) at 9 a.m. On Monday plan to workout at the school and on Wednesday plan to be at the OAC. For more information please contact Alyssa Rossi.

SGHS Athletic Updates


The Hall of Fame Recognition and Winter and Spring Athletic Banquet was a great success! The evening began by recognizing the inductees to the 2018 Hall of Fame Class: Nancy Carol Baughan ‘69, Deborah Eades Hodge ‘67, Christy Kee Rodden ‘88 and Cathy Covert Talbert ‘68.  Following a delicious dinner, the winter and spring coaches presented individual team awards and then evening finished with a special slideshow. On Saturday, May 19, Senior Shot Putter, Lexi Lamb will compete in the VISAA Track and Field Meet at Sports Backer Stadium! Following another record-breaking year, Lexi hopes to do well in her final meet as a Gator. Good Luck, Lexi!

Please plan to attend the signing ceremonies for three seniors who will be going on to compete in their respective colleges! Monday, May 14 at 3:30 p.m. in the Athletic Lobby we will celebrate  Isabella Boehling (RMC, tennis) and Emma Wilson (Hollins, cross country and lacrosse). Tuesday, May 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Athletic Lobby we will celebrate Aimee DeBell (RMC, basketball and soccer).

On Tuesday, May 22nd a representative from Fleet Feet Sports will be at SGHS to talk about proper footwear and injury prevention as well as perform gait analysis for anyone interested! More details to come!

The Soccer and lacrosse teams both finished 6th in the LIS with a loss at #3 seeded Saint Anne’s- Belfield in the first round of the LIS tournament on Monday, May 7.  Varsity softball finished a very successful season on Wednesday, May 9 at Saint John Paul the Great with a 9-10 loss in extra innings! The Gators battled back from being down 0-9 to tie it up and force extra innings! Both JV Soccer and lacrosse teams finished their season with tournament over the weekend. Both teams went 1-1 on the day and had a lot of fun! Outdoor track will compete at the JV meet at St. Christopher’s today, Friday, May 11 and qualifying athletes will attend the LIS conference meet on Saturday, May 12. Lexi Lamb ’18, who set a new SGHS shot put record this year, was recognized at morning gathering on Thursday, May 10. The Golf team finished the year at Crossings on Tuesday, May 8. Gabi Unger ’20 won her division by one stroke. Isabella Riley ’20 shot 48 and Melissa Dolfi ’19 shot a career low, 58. The top four scores were rounded out by Lauren Funk ’20 and Sydney Bernard ’20. Kelly McGranahan ’19 and Daimesha Wiggins ’21 also had their best tournament of the year.

The Soccer teams had a full and successful week! On Monday, Aimee DeBell, Anna Klosky and SueAnn Wheeler were honored prior to the Varsity team’s game with Veritas School, which finished in a 1-1 draw. On Wednesday, the JV team defeated Saint John Paul, 2-0. Today, Friday, May 4th the Varsity team will end the regular season with a home game vs Steward School at the OAC at 4:30PM. The JV team will travel to King William HS on Saturday, May 5th for a tournament. The Varsity team finished 6th in the LIS and will travel to #3 seeded Saint Anne’s- Belfield for the first round of the LIS tournament on Monday, May 7th.

Varsity Softball took this week to work hard in practice and focus on hitting. The Wednesday game scheduled with Saint Catherine’s was postponed to Friday and later cancelled. The team will finish a very successful season next Wednesday, May 9th at Saint John Paul the Great.

Both Lacrosse teams got in the win column this week! Varsity had a big road win at Christ Church on Wednesday, May 2nd and JV won on the road vs Powhatan on Thursday, May 3rd. This year’s seniors are being recognized today, Friday May 4th at 4PM at the OAC in the final home game of the year against Norfolk Collegiate. The JV team will finish the season at Forest Park HS for a tournament on Saturday, May 5th. The Varsity team finished 6th in the LIS and will travel to #3 seeded Saint Anne’s- Belfield for the first round of the LIS tournament on Monday, May 7th.

Outdoor track competed at St. Christopher’s on Wednesday, May 2nd in a lighter week. Next week, the team will compete at the JV meet at St. Christopher’s on Friday, May 11th and at qualifying athletes will attend the LIS conference meet on Saturday, May 12th. Senior, Lexi Lamb, who has set a new SGHS shot put record this year,  will be recognized at morning gathering on Thursday, May 10th!

Golf athletes participated in a match on Wednesday, May 2nd at their home course of Windy Hill. The team will finish the season next week with one final match at St. Catherine’s.

SGHS Weekly Update


Please join us this week in honoring the senior soccer and lacrosse players at the senior recognition games (see schedule below).

Varsity Soccer battled STAB in the rain this week, but could not find the back of the net. The JV soccer team traveled to Veritas on Thursday, April 26 and got in the win column, 3-1! Prior to the Monday, April 30 game vs. Veritas at 4:30 p.m., the senior soccer players will be recognized. Please join us for that wonderful celebration of these fantastic girls!

After a rainy start to the week, Varsity Softball had to cancel the game vs. Saint John Paul The Great and move the Tuesday game with Collegiate to Thursday, April 26. The team dropped the game 0-10 but had some good hits, and solid defensive plays against the state-ranked Cougars. Softball will take on St. Catherine’s next week.

Varsity Lacrosse staged a comeback after being down by multiple goals, but just ran out of time vs. Saint John Paul The Great on Monday, April 23–dropping the game 14-15. After a rainout on Tuesday, the team next traveled to Covenant School on Wednesday, April 25 but couldn’t get the win in Charlottesville. Varsity and JV hosted Trinity on Thursday, April 26 with both teams dropping back and forth games with the Titans. The senior recognition game is set for Friday, May 4th at the OAC at 4:00 p.m. vs Norfolk Collegiate. Please come out and support the senior laxers!

Outdoor track  had a solid meet this week at Collegiate on Wednesday, April 25. Fiona Hefele, Ashley Gonzalez and Leah Bishop all ran PR’s and all three are within a second of qualifying for States. The team will next compete on Wednesday, May 2 at St. Christopher. The team would love it if students, teachers and staff could come out and cheer the girls on!

Golf has been steadily improving this season and the girls are having a lot of fun. In the match on Thursday, April 26, Captain, Isabella Riley shot a season low 48 and the team was able to enter and play all four players for the first time. Thursday the team will compete at Meadowbrook CC.
