Student athletes in a Positive Coaching Alliance Workshop held on August, 23rd.

Thank you to the parents and student-athletes who attended our Parent Athletic Meeting and PCA Workshop for Student-Athletes! We will be posting more information about these events on the resource board if you were unable to attend.

The Varsity Volleyball hosted Saint Gertrude’s first official home game on Tuesday, August 28th vs Walsingham Academy. After getting a 2 game lead, the visitors fought back to force a 5th set, where the Gators ultimately got the win. The JV and Varsity team will travel to Veritas for LIS action next Tuesday.

Varsity Tennis traveled to Walsingham Academy and dropped a tough match, 3-6. The team next headed to St. Catherine’s for a match on Thursday, August 23, but there was a rain out before the match ended. At the time of the rain cancellation, #1 singles player, Caitlin Crowder was up 7-2 over her opponent! The JV team will have its first match next Wednesday, September 5 at Collegiate School.

Both Field hockey teams got some good experience at the Gator Fall Play Day on August 16th. The Varsity game scheduled for Tuesday vs Steward School was cancelled due to unsafe temperatures. That game is rescheduled for October 2nd. JV Field hockey attempted to host Panthers on Thursday, August 30 for its first game, but was rained out. August Athletic Notes

There will be an All Sports Meeting for Parents and Students on Thursday, August 23rd at 7PM. Parents should meet in the gym and students should meet in the MPR. In the parent meeting, we will be discussing the Athletic Handbook and Policies and Procedures as well as have a Meet & Greet with the Coaches. In the student session, they will attend a Positive Coaching Alliance Workshop: Becoming a Triple Impact Competitor. This dynamic workshop defines what it means to be a competitor in terms of three important goals: make yourself better, make your teammates better, and make your sport better.

We will be saying goodbye to Alyssa Rossi our Athletic Trainer for the past three years as SGHS Athletics will be working with a new health care provider for our Athletic Training Needs moving forward. We will miss Alyssa and wish her the very best of luck in her future endeavors! We will be having a going away party for Alyssa in the next few weeks and introducing our new Athletic Trainer soon!

Tryouts have been going well and the fall teams are excited to get into the season. Volleyball and Field Hockey will be participating in preseason scrimmages the week of August 14th with all fall team official competitions beginning the first week of school.

SGHS Athletics welcomes new coaches for some of our teams this year! This fall, we have a new JV Volleyball coach in Erin Camody who is a former student-athlete at Tusculum University. We welcome back Melanie Tenney, a former two sport athlete from Lynchburg College who assisted the Varsity Softball team in the 2018 season as our JV Field Hockey coach this fall! We are also excited to announce our new Varsity Basketball Coach, Robyn D’Onofrio.
