SGHS Weekly Update


Winter Sports Begin the Week of November 5th. Athletes MUST have an updated physical form on file in order to tryout and/or practice. See Coach Pochily for more details.

Varsity Volleyball dropped a tough game on Tuesday, October 23rd to St. Margaret’s School at home but JV Volleyball had a good win over the visiting Scotties. The JV team finished its season on Thursday in a home match vs Veritas School. The Varsity team won the first set vs Veritas on Thursday but the visitors battled back to take the second. The Gators answered in the 3rd and 4th set to win the match! The team The LIS conference tournament seedings will be determined following this week’s games. With this win, the Gators have secured the 2nd seed and a home match for first round of the tournament, which will be played on Tuesday, October 30 at 5pm vs St. Anne’s Belfield.    

JV Field hockey defeated St. Anne’s-Belfield last Friday, October 19 and finished their season with a 0-0 tie vs St. John Paul the Great on Thursday, October 25.  The Varsity team dropped games to Steward and SJP this week. Today, October 26th will be the final home game for the Gators and the Senior Recognition game at 4:30 PM. The LIS conference tournament is set to begin on Monday, October 29. The Gators will travel to St. Catherine’s for a 3:30PM game.

The Varsity tennis defeated St. John Paul the Great on the road on Tuesday, October 23rd, 6-3! The team next finished a previously started match vs St. Catherine’s and Caitlin Crowder had a big win at #1 Singles, 10-6! The team finished the regular season with a loss at Trinity, but Lauren Funk and Margaret Alloca got a win at #3 doubles!

The Cross Country team traveled to the Atlantic Coast XC Invitational on, Saturday, October 20 and Brynn Vea came in 3rd! On Tuesday, October 23rd, Mary Kehoe took 1st place in the State Catholic Meet! Brynn Vea placed 3rd in the JV race. The Cross Country team will use next week to prepare for the LIS Conference Meet on Friday, November 2.
