The State Qualifying Senior Swimmers at the Senior Parade
Saint Gertrude swimming finished the season with a bang at the VISAA tournament–taking 9th place overall! Top ten finishes include: Penn State bound, Mary Cornett placed 3rd in the 200 IM and 4th in the 100M Breaststroke. Willow Clark placed 7th in the 50 Free and 8th in the 100 Back.. The 4×100 Free Relay team of Cassidy Butt, Audrey Lewis, Willow Clark and Mary Cornett placed 8th! The 4×50 medley relay team of Willow Clark, Mary Cornett, Audrey Lewis and Cassidy Butt placed 9th (1st place in the B-final!)
The indoor track team finished its season at the VISAA State meet on Saturday, February 16. The meet was highlighted by personal bests! Madison Kuriger, on her last throw of the season, breaks the 21′ mark for a New PR of 21-4! In the 55M dash, Leah Bishop and Rebecca Peppers finished 20th and 25th respectively with strong runs that were very close to their PRs! (8.23, 8.53)
In the 300M dash, Leah and Rebecca finished 16th and 19th respectively, with 43 runners registered for that race! Becca finished the year with a new PR (47.93)!
The varsity basketball team defeated St. Catherine’s in the quarterfinals of the LIS tournament at SGHS on Friday, February 15. The Gators traveled to top-seeded, Saint Anne’s Belfield on Tuesday, February 19th but despite a great start to the game, could not get the upset. STAB will host Trinity Episcopal today in the LIS Championship. The All-LIS Team will be announced following the game. The Gators were once again ranked 11th in the state in Division 1 this week, so the team isin a good spot to make the VISAA State tournament. The final VISAA bracket will be released this weekend.
Spring sports practices have started up and softball, soccer and lacrosse will open up the season with scrimmages next week.

The indoor track team competed in the LIS conference tournament last Saturday and had great results! The 4x200M relay team of Madeline Tuckley, Fiona Hefele, Rebecca Peppers and Leah Bishop combined for a terrific time of 1:59.63, beating the school record.
Madison Kuriger had a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 20′ 7.5″ and Leah Bishop has a personal best time in the 300M dash at 45.44. Members of the team will compete at St. Christopher’s tomorrow, Saturday, February 16 for the VISAA Invitational to finish out the season.
Eight members of the swim team have qualified and are currently attending the VISAA meet, February 14-16. Best of luck to Cassidy Butt, Willow Clark, Mary Cornett, Emily Czaja, Audrey Lewis, Rachel Lewis, Molly Sproull and Vivian Upchurch!
The JV basketball team finished out a great season with wins over Spirit and St. Margaret’s. The Spirit win was especially great as the team lost to the visitors in their first meeting! The team finished the season with four straight wins!
The varsity team finished a strong regular season with a win at St. Margaret’s School. This victory secured the 4th place seed in the LIS Tournament for the squad. The Gators will host 5th seeded, St. Catherine’s School today, Friday, February 15 at 5 p.m.We hope you’ll join us in PACKING THE GYM! The winner of this LIS match up will next face top-seeded, STAB on Tuesday, February 19 at Saint Anne’s Belfield. The All-LIS Team will be announced following the LIS Championship game on Thursday, February 21. The Gators are also in a good spot to make the VISAA State tournament, as they are currently ranked 11th in Division 1. The final VISAA bracket will be released the weekend of February 23.

The Swim team competed in the LIS Conference meet at St. Catherine’s Pool last Saturday, February 2 and recognized the senior swimmer prior to the meet. A few Gators will attend a Last Chance meet at Woodberry Forest tomorrow, Saturday, February 9th. Following this meet, all swimmers with qualifying times will attend the VISAA meet next weekend, February 14-16.
The JV and varsity basketball teams traveled to Norfolk Academy last Saturday, February 2 and both teams came away with great team wins! The Gators hosted Trinity Episcopal on Wednesday, February 6 with both teams having a great showing. The JV dominated the visiting Titans and the Varsity was just a few points shy of the upset. The JV team will host Spirit today at 4:30 p.m. before both teams finish out the regular season with games at St. Margaret’s School on Tuesday, February 12. The Varsity team will begin postseason play on Friday, February 15, with opponent and location, to be determined.
The Indoor Track team competed at St. Christopher’s last Saturday, February 2. It was another great meet for the squad. The 4x200M Relay Team of Madeline Tuckley, Claire Rankin, Rebecca Peppers and Fiona Hefele set a new school record of 2:03.72. Claire also took 3rd place in the long jump! The team is back at St. Christopher’s tomorrow for the LIS conference meet. Field events begin at 12:00 p.m.

The JV and varsity basketball teams hosted Collegiate School on Tuesday, January 29 in front of a big crowd as we recognized the senior players. Although both teams came up short, they played with heart and really honored their teammates with their efforts and fight until the end. Varsity had a big win over Banner Christian on Thursday, January 31 where every Gator scored! Page Plageman had 15 points in the 1st quarter! The Gators will travel to Norfolk Academy tomorrow, Saturday, February 2 for JV and varsity games.
The Swim team is gearing up for the LIS Conference meet at St. Catherine’s Pool tomorrow, Saturday, February 2. We will recognize the team’s senior swimmers prior to the start of the meet at 9 a.m.
The Indoor Track team will compete at St. Christopher’s tomorrow, Saturday, February 2. Field events will begin at 11a.m. with running events for the Gators happening a 2p.m.
