The JV Basketball Team Battling at Trinity Episcopal

The Varsity Basketball team remains undefeated in the LIS conference with two more big wins this week over Collegiate School and Trinity Episcopal. The JV and Varsity team will host Norfolk Academy tomorrow, Saturday, February 1 at 1:00p.m. and 2:30p.m. The Gator Shop will also be open on Saturday and Chick-Fil-A Sandwiches will be in the concessions stands! 

The Swim team is excited to compete in the LIS Championships tomorrow, Saturday, February 1 at St. Catherine’s Pool. The team will honor its seniors at 9:00 a.m. prior to the meet, which begins at 10:00 a.m.  The Indoor track has been training hard and is looking forward to the meet tomorrow, Saturday, February 1st  at St. Christopher’s. Events begin at 11:00a.m. Come out to support all three winter sports on Saturday!

SGHS Weekly Athletics Update


There will be pre-season interest meetings on Monday, January 27 at 3:30PM for Soccer Players and Tuesday, January 28 at 3:30PM for Lacrosse and Softball Players. The Outdoor Track and Golf interest meetings will be in the coming weeks. 

The Varsity Basketball team defeated St. Catherine’s on Tuesday, January 21 away and the JV team came on strong at the end of the game but couldn’t finalize the comeback over the Saints. The Varsity team played Potomac School, Friday, January 24 in the Gator HoopLa double header event with the Cadets at Shepherd Street Gym! It was an awesome game with the Gators coming away with a 48-29 victory. The team followed that exciting win up with another win the next day vs Caroline High School, 40-31. Sophomore, Kate Samson was named game MVP in the Athletes for Awareness eent. 

The Swim team had a solid meet on January 17 at SwimRVA  and is looking forward to the LIS Conference meet at St. Catherine’s on Saturday, February 1. This year’s senior class will be recognized prior to the meet at 9am!  The Indoor track had this week off of competitions but is looking forward to their next meet on Saturday, February 1st and the LIS Conference on February 8th.

SGHS Athletics Update


 

The basketball team with the best fans in town after the big win over Trinity Episcopal on Thursday, January 16. 

The Varsity Basketball team had a HUGE victory on Tuesday, January 14 as it upset the #2 ranked team from Saint Anne’s Belfield, 47-46. The team was back in action with another perennially strong team in Trinity Episcopal on Thursday, January 16 and came away with a 45-44 win! These two wins were the first in recent years over STAB and Trinity and the Gators have now beaten every team in the conference! 

The Swim headed back into the pool on Friday January 10th in a meet with various other schools at Swim RVA. The Gators were led by Sophomore, Audrey Lewis who finished 2nd in the 100 free, 3rd in the 100 breaststroke and anchored the relays of Molly Sproull, Vivian Upchurch and Emily Czaja to 4th place finishes in the 200 free relay and 200 medley! Other top performances came from Molly Sproull who finished 3rd in the 100 free and Emily Czaja who finished 3rd in the 100 backstroke! The team also finished 7th overall in the State Catholic Meet on Saturday, January 11. The Gators swim today, January 17 at 6pm at SwimRVA for a meet hosted by Collegiate School.

The Indoor track team was back in action at Liberty University, on Saturday, January 10. The meet was highlighted by three new school records! Mary Kehoe set a new school record in the 1600m with a time of 5:35.91, which was enough for a 15th place finish in this competitive meet. The 4 x 200 relay team of Lauren Horan, Madeline Tuckley, Rebecca Peppers and Leah Bishop set a new school record with a time of 1:57.18 and a 19th place finish. The 4 x 400 relay team of Tabitha Pickral, Camdyn Ratzlaff, Kai’a Coley and Kayda Coley set a new school record with a time of 4:54.63 and finished 17th place. The squad is set to compete at St. Christopher’s tomorrow, Saturday, January 18.

Congratulations to Nan Kerner on being our December Gator of the Month!

It was no rest for the weary for the Varsity basketball team over the Christmas break, as the squad participated in the RTD Tournament on December 12/20-23, as well as the Gator Christmas Classic on 12/27-12/28. The Gators finished 7th in the RTD tournament and 2nd in the Gator Christmas Classic, but played some excellent competition and challenged themselves. The JV team played at tough CVHAA squad in the Gator Christmas Classic but couldn’t get the win. Both teams earned conference victories on Tuesday, January 7th at Veritas School. On Friday January 10 the Varsity team traveled up to Saint John Paul for a double header with the Cadets from BCP! The Gators came away with a solid win, 77-46.
