SGHS Athletics Weekly Update


The  JV Basketball team after a great win over Norfolk Academy

The Varsity Basketball team remains undefeated in the LIS conference with two more big wins this week over Collegiate School and Trinity Episcopal. The JV and Varsity team hosted Norfolk Academy on Saturday, February 1 and both had awesome team wins! The teams will travel to Saint Anne’s Belfield on Wednesday, February 5 for the final LIS games of the season.

The Swim team competed in the LIS Championships on Saturday, February 1 at St. Catherine’s Pool. The team honored its seniors prior to the meet. Highlights included Audrey Lewis taking 7th in the 500 free and 8th in the 100 breast  an Molly Sproull taking 12th in the 100 fly and 16th in the 500 free.

The Indoor track has been training hard and it certainly showed onSaturday, February 1st  in a meet at St. Christopher’s. The team finished 4th overall with a number of highlights. Mary Kehoe took first in the 1600m and 2nd in the 1000m. Lauren Horan took 3rd in the 55m hurdles as well. Numerous athletes PRed and/or achieved qualifying times for the State VISAA meet coming up in a few weeks including: the 4 x 200m relay team of Lauren Horan, Rebecca Peppers, Madeline Tuckley and Leah Bishop (this was also a new school record!), the 4 x 400 relay team of Camdyn Ratsliff, Kayda Coley, Kai’a Coley and Tabitha Pickral (this was also a new school record!), Lauren Horan-long jump, Kayda Coley- long jump, Lauren Horan-55 hurdles, Leah Bishop and Rebecca Peppers- 300m, Mary Kehoe-1000m (this was also a new school record) and 1600m,  and Madeline Tuckley- shot put and new school record!
