SGHS Athletics Weekly Update


Congratulations to our Senior Winter Sport Athletes!

The Swim team finished sixth in the LIS Championships on Saturday, February 1 at St. Catherine’s Pool. Highlights of the meet included Audrey Lewis finishing 7th in the 500 free, which also qualified her for states, and 8th in the 100 breast. Molly Sproull qualified for the state meet in the 50 bonus and dropped 4 seconds in the 100 fly.

The JV and Varsity Basketball teams both defeated Norfolk Academy at home on Saturday, February 1. On Wednesday, February 5 the teams traveled to Saint Anne’s Belfield but both teams lost hard fought games. The loss snapped an incredible 10 game winning streak from the Varsity team! The Gators are currently ranked 5th in the VISAA. Both teams will host Saint John Paul the Great today, Friday February 7th, where the teams will also honor its seniors.

The Indoor track was “dialed in” for the meet on February 1, with multiple state qualifying performances, personal bests and even new school records! The 4 x 200 relay team of Lauren Horan, Rebecca Peppers, Madeline Tuckley and Leah Bishop set a new school record and qualified for state, the 4 x 400 relay team of Camdyn Ratzlaff, Kayda Coley, Kai’a Coley and Tabitha Pickral set a new school record and qualified for states as well! Lauren Horan and Kayda Coley both qualified for state in the long jump, and Lauren Horan also qualified for states in the 55 hurdles. Leah Bishop and Rebecca Peppers both qualified in the 300. Madeline Tuckley set a new school record and qualified for states in the Shot Put. Mary Kehoe finished 1st in the 1600, set a new school record and qualified for states! Mary also set a new school record in the 1000!
