Meet the Coaches Who Help Build Skill. Character. Sportsmanship.
As a former D-1 athlete and coach, Athletic Director Fran Pochily strives to support coaches and student-athletes to establish the framework for a healthy physical and mental lifestyle. Her goal is to instill the love of sports and team that will last a lifetime. She is passionate about training SGHS coaches to address the core elements of effective coaching, focusing on character development and sportsmanship.
Robyn D'Onofrio
Entering her ninth season coaching the Saint Gertrude basketball program, Coach D’Onofrio says, “I am honored to continue building on the tradition of excellence that defines Gator basketball.”
Career at a glance
- Led SGHS to win the 2021 VISAA State Championship
- Played collegiate basketball at Norwich University
- 11 years of coaching experience
At Saint Gertrude
“Since arriving at Saint Gertrude in 2018, one of the proudest moments of my coaching career was leading the Gators to the 2021 VISAA State Championship. While championships are memorable, what makes this program truly special is the BSoR community and the unwavering commitment, character, and work ethic our student-athletes bring every day. I am incredibly grateful for the support of our families, faculty, alumni, and fans, and I look forward to building on the success of previous seasons while developing the next generation of Gators who will represent Saint Gertrude with pride, passion, and excellence both on and off the court."

Carsyn Poppa
Carsyn Poppa is in her second year coaching field hockey at Saint Gertrude. She says, “I've loved the sport my entire life and have enjoyed the opportunity to give back through coaching the Gators!”
Career at a glance
- Played at Mechanicsville High School and was named to the All-State Field Hockey team in 2022
- Named 2022 Player of the Year
- Played collegiate field hockey at Roanoke College where she played both defense and midfield
At Saint Gertrude
“We’ve established a new team culture that prioritizes sisterhood and discipline, which has really translated on the field. I get very excited thinking about the future of SGHS field hockey.”

Sarah Kimbrall
Sarah Kimbrell is in her fifth year as the head of the St. Gertrude’s volleyball program and has over seven years of club coaching experience in the Richmond area. Off the court, Sarah is a dedicated teacher and mother of three who loves spending time outdoors with her family.
Career at a glance
- An elite athlete, Sarah was named the 2006 Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year and won two state championships in high school.
- Played at collegiately for Birmingham-Southern College and The University of Mobile
- Recognized as an NAIA All-American at The University of Mobile

Madison Knight
Madison Knight is in her first year coaching Varsity lacrosse at Saint Gertrude. She said, “Lacrosse has been a lifelong passion of mine, and I continue to play in an adult league. I’m beyond excited to step into this new role and bring my knowledge, energy, and intensity to the team.”
Career at a glance
- Graduated in 2022 from the University of Lynchburg, where she played lacrosse as a defender and draw circle contributor
- Served as team captain at the University of Lynchburg for two years, an experience that she says “shaped my leadership style and deepened my love for the game.”
- Earned a Master’s degree in public health from Drexel University in 2024
- Works as an educational conference planner for a nonprofit that supports transplant professionals. She says that it is “rewarding work she is truly passionate about.”

Rich Razzetti
University of Richmond Athletic Hall of Fame Tennis player, Rich Razzetti, is starting his 13th year coaching the Varsity tennis team at SGHS.
Career at a glance
- Attended the University of Richmond on a tennis scholarship
- Inducted into the University of Richmond Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006
- Worked in federal law enforcement for 32 years
- Currently works for the Henrico County Police Department
At Saint Gertrude
- Starting his 13th year coaching the Varsity tennis team at SGHS
- His daughter graduated from SGHS in 2016 (Class of Black & Lime), and his son graduated from BCP in 2015.

Scott Schaefer
Scott Schaefer ’98 is returning to coaching BSoR cross country this fall after taking several years off from coaching. He is the athletic director at Saint Mary’s Catholic School, where he has taught for over 20 years. He is very excited to be back at BSoR as a coach and now as a parent, with a son in the class of 2030.
Career at a glance
- Schaefer previously coached 12 years at Benedictine and 11 years for Saint Gertrude
- Named to the All State VISAA and State Catholic teams for cross country and track multiple times as a Cadet.
- Holds many school records in both the indoor and outdoor 4 x 800 relay.
- Schaefer was part of Coach Savage’s first State Catholic Track Championship team in 1998.
- Finished 5th in the VISAA Cross Country Championship his senior year
- Finished 2nd in the 3200m at the VISAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships his junior year
At Saint Gertrude and Benedictine
Coach Schaefer won Cavalier Conference Coach of the Year in 2008. He led the team to back-to-back cross country titles in the Cavalier Conference and won the conference title for track.
He led the Cadets two runners-up finishes in the State Catholic Track and Field Championships during his previous tenure while also coaching many All-VISAA athletes.

Bob Marcellus
Coach Marcellus, who has served as head coach and clinician for numerous Richmond area soccer programs, is entering his second year coaching varsity soccer at BCP in the fall and SGHS in the spring.

- Assistant Coach Catawba College NC - NAIA
- NSCAA All-America Team at Catawba College
- NAIA All-America Team at Catawba College

"Being a three-season athlete at Saint Gertrude is teaching me lessons that will help me succeed in college and later in life. Practice and perseverance are key in every sport that I play at SGHS. The challenges that our teams face each season require me to push forward when things get tough. Through dedication and perseverance, I have become a stronger athlete, a more confident student, and a part of something bigger than myself."
